Companies interested in migrating to Cloud Computing are increasingly determined to choose the Private Cloud for reasons of security, compliance, interface customization and delivery options. The Private Cloud had an $8 billion market in 2010 – it reached $32 billion in 2013 and is expected to grow faster and faster than the Public Cloud over the next five years. Technology business research (TBR).

The option of creating a Private Cloud has been adopted especially in companies that already have structured security policies and are limited by the regulations of their business strategies.

As regards investments, by opting for the Private Cloud it is possible to optimize operating costs, since the automation, virtualization, standardization and self service significantly reduce high support costs.

But is the Private Cloud suitable for all companies? Those with small Data Centers are unable to obtain sufficient profits to generate a cost-benefit ratio, compensating for the construction and operation of Private Clouds, which is why they continue to prefer the Public Cloud.

A TBR study showed that 70% of large companies with more than 1,000 employees are looking at managed cloud offerings, while 30% are interested in owning their own cloud.

For Moor Insights & Strategy analyst Patrick Moorhead, large companies prefer the Private option, as they believe they have better quality of service and more control over data protection, as well as being subject to regulations in some industries and countries regarding data manipulation that make the Private Cloud a better choice.

Public clouds are typically an entry-level option, especially for small organizations, as they offer a mix of affordability and ease of adoption. The Private Cloud, on the other hand, is the option for those who have specific needs, mainly in terms of security and hardware and (or) dedicated resources.

The fact is that organizations of different sizes are grappling with the problem. There is no one answer to the question of what is the best option for your business? The main point is to understand the main differences and what the advantages and disadvantages are in adopting one or the other.

The Public Cloud is one in which services and infrastructures are provided based exclusively on Internet standards. They generally offer a higher level of efficiency in shared resources. However, they are more vulnerable when comparing private clouds. The Public Cloud is a good choice when the need is standardized and does not require complex infrastructure, with a high level of customization and demand requirements.

Private Cloud works best to meet a specific business need or request, offering a high level of security and control, and is also the most suitable option when control, security and computing power are crucial points.

The decisions revolve around the urgency of reducing costs, a constant objective of managers, not only of IT, but of all companies, which has opened up space for the search for alternatives such as virtualization of Cloud Computing servers.

The economy, however, is not the only advantage that pushes companies to bet on Cloud Computing. Flexibility, agility in meeting business demands and even attention to sustainability are factors that have an important weight in this decision. Process automation has ended up creating its own and inflexible technological structures. On the one hand, they added operational efficiency to the company, and on the other, they established a way to strengthen the business. By sharing structures and resources, the idea is to regain flexibility and agility to meet requests.

A public cloud doesn’t offer the security and information privacy that many businesses require. This is why, despite all the advantages, this way of storing and sharing data is still viewed with caution and distrust in several companies.

To conclude, it is worth mentioning that the Cloud environment is very flexible, which means that it is not necessary to exclusively opt for Private or Public. Hybrid Cloud can be adopted to the extent that this option can meet the different technological needs of the company. Starting with one or the other depends on the company’s strategy and its characteristics.
